COLUMBUS, Ohio (October 12, 2016) — Shelley Meyer, a fitness enthusiast and the First Lady of Ohio State Football, has been named Honorary Race Director of the 2016 Ohio State Four-Miler.

The Ohio State Four-Miler, a running and walking event that debuted in 2013, will featured a sold-out field of 15,000 runners and walkers who will finish on the 50-yard line of Ohio Stadium on Oct. 23, 2016.

A portion of the proceeds of the Ohio State Four-Miler benefit the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund For Cancer Research, a general cancer research support fund dedicated to advancing cancer research at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center — Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The Meyers established the fund in 2013 to help recruit faculty to the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Center.

“The Ohio State Four-Miler is a wonderful opportunity for Buckeye Nation to celebrate football and fitness and support the fight against cancer,” Shelley Meyer said. “I look forward to seeing everyone at the event and watching 15,000 athletes ‘Finish on the 50’ of Ohio Stadium.”

Urban and Shelley Meyer are annually present the Buckeye Cruise For Cancer, which benefits the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund For Cancer Research.

The Ohio State Four-Miler will start outside of Ohio Stadium and take participants on a four-mile tour of the Ohio State campus before finishing on Ohio Stadium’s 50-yard line. The Ohio State Four-Miler Post-Race Tailgate Party will be held outside the stadium before and after the race.

The Ohio State Four-Miler sold out at 15,000 participants for the second straight year. The event had sold-out fields of 10,000 in 2013, 12,000 in 2014 and 15,000 in 2015.

“The overwhelming response and success of the Ohio State Four-Miler has been a direct reflection for the love of Ohio State sports and the desire to celebrate football and fitness,” said Ray DeWeese, General Manager of IMG Sports Marketing. “We look forward to celebrating with Buckeye Nation again on Oct. 23.”
